THOUGHTS & FEELS: NYX LIQUID ILLUMINATOR IN GLEAM

Wednesday 3 December 2014
I didn't even think to take that price sticker off but hey, now you know how much it costs.

I've gone a little highlighter crazy lately and this is the latest addition to my growing collection. I mentioned this badboy in my most recent favourites, so you if you would like to see what I wrote there (link), feel free. Or you could just stick around here because I'm going to say pretty much the same thing just in a lot more detail.

Packaging: This highlighter comes in a handy little squeezy tube which is perfect for squeezing out just the right amount of product. The tube itself is indicative of the colour of the product; metallic rose-gold. And pretty as hell. It's not really evident in the photo, because I'm a terrible photographer, but the tube has a sort of translucency to it so you can see how much product is left, which is really handy. Obviously you'd be able to tell if you were running low because of the type of packaging, but it's just nice to see a brand go that extra inch.

Shade: I picked up the shade Gleam which is the more golden-toned of the two liquid highlighters that Nyx offers. As I have more golden toned skin, (if I had a pound for every time I said that), I tend to reach for more golden-hued or yellow based highlighters and despite this one being a more rose-gold, I find it works really well with my skin tone as it reflects mostly a golden highlight when the light catches this on my cheekbones.

Finish & Application: Nyx indicates that this is a "lightweight liquid illuminator that gives skin a refreshed glow and beautiful highlight", and I rarely read a truer description. I twist off the cap and squeeze a tiny bit of on the back of my hand and I'm good for the most beautiful glow on both cheekbones and wherever else I choose to highlight. I have found, though,  if I go a bit too wild with my brush, it can look a little sparkly around the edges, but that isn't something that bothers me as it's not too over the top. I use a stippling brush from Primark which is more like what I imagine a kabuki brush is like but anywho, it works wonders.

Longevity: One thing that I do love about this highlighter is that is has a thicker consistency than most and it's more of a gel. In my mind, this is what helps with longevity as gel tends to dry pretty quickly. I've never had any smudging or fading with this product either as it dries really, really fast. Once it has dried, take care to leave it alone because if you try and keep blending it will blend out to nothing in some places and be stuck like glue in others which will leave it looking patchy. That can be a bit of a con because you have to work so fast with it, but it honestly does look so pretty.

So overall, this is a very decent, very afforable highlighter that does it's job very well.

- I will warn you that there's a negative review on the Next website. Just putting that out there so you know that I know and that I'm not trying to avoid it because I've written a positive review. Okay? Okay.

Thanks for reading, xo.
